Need to earn some extra cash fast. I’m pretty open minded and have been thinking about signing up for those sex cam things I found from this tumblr.

Whether it’s gas or electric, one of the biggest consumers of energy, and thus household expense, is a cooker. How can you save money cooking? Well, not cooking is NOT an answer. Obviously.

So, if you have a woodburning stove, multi fuel stove, or heck, even an open fire and use it regularly, then make your stove or open fire double up as a slow cooker!  This may seem obvious to those who already do this, but I was surprised the amount of people I know who have installed a multi fuel stove to ‘save money’ but literally just use it for heating a room. Nothing else.

I cook daily on my multi fuel stove, but it requires planning. If you have ever used a slow cooker before, you will be used to planning ahead. If you are not used to slow cooking and planning ahead, it only requires a little mental adjustment, and you’ll be saving money in no time.

It’s fantastic as for cooking one pot meals – soups, stews, pottages, curries, rice, beans, lentils etc. Get a large pot, bung in all your veggie and other ingredients in the morning and you’re done. Simples. In fact, if your stove gets very hot it will probably not take much longer than a gas or electric oven. It takes me 10 minutes in the prep all my ingredients in the morning, and I’ve got my lunch and dinner sorted for the day. But here’s the problem, did you notice how all the meals have a theme? That’s right, there’s nothing roasted or baked, and it’s all 'wet’ textured. After a while it gets boring.

Omnia Stove Top Oven

That was until I found out about stove top ovens! Now I’m a roasting whizz. There are lots of stove top ovens one the market at various price levels. They range from glorified cooking sauce pans with a hole in the middle, to Dutch ovens, to large camping ovens you can attach to the flue of your stove. I use Omnia and a Coleman 'camping’ oven – it’s AWESOME. I baked bread several times a week, roast and bake potatoes, bake cookies, and so on. If you have an open fire, a cast iron Dutch oven with a tripod works a treat. Some Dutch ovens have an inner raised area for baking.

I rarely even use my electric cooker now and have saved SO much money and time. If you are like me and use your stove daily, then you can save some money too! Don’t be put off by the mental adjustment it needs – our ancestors have been cooking like this for hundreds, if not, thousands of years.
